Lucca, Pinocchio’s Great Oak tree, Montecarlo

PROMO -20%

We leave Lucca by bicycle following dirt roads alongside the Serchio river through the land filled with vineyards and olive groves, through to Ponte a Moriano, the Ville Lucchesi (namely: Oliva Grabau, Reale and Torrigiani) and Camigliano (Le 4 Mura) reaching San Martino in Colle.
This is where “Il Quercione” is located: said to have inspired Carlo Collodi’s tale of Pinocchio. A 600 year old oak tree with a 40 m diameter! We will stop for an unforgettable experience and rest at this hidden natural masterpiece!
Thereafter we will proceed towards the small and ancient village of Montecarlo famous for the excellent quality of its wine and olive oil, one of the most evocative destinations on Lucca’s Wine Route.
The old town of Montecarlo, standing alone on the top of its hill, surrounded by the medieval walls, houses the Rocca del Cerruglio which we will be visiting. The next stop will be at the Fattoria del Poggio farmhouse and restaurant, for a typically Tuscan appetizer, olive oil tasting (four different varieties), dessert and wine.

The return will be by train from S. Salvatore to Lucca.
