Eroica
The Eroica is a vintage bike race that has been held every year since 1997 in the Siena area. It evokes bygone eras of cycling on gravel roads, with participants riding vintage bikes and wearing retro clothing. It is usually held on the first Sunday of October.
The race is open to all, but the diploma of “Eroici” (heroes) is only given to those taking part on a vintage bicycle meeting a number of criteria specific to bicycles produced before the end of the 1980’s, such as:
- steel frame
- gear shift levers on down tube of frame
- passage of brake cable outside handlebars
- pedals with toe clips and fitted straps
